The Bangalong Gang: Live in the Dry Locker

During the cruise this website recalls, some sailors amused themselves in their off hours by playing musical instruments. One day, probably during the latter days of the cruise, three shipmates--Parachute Riggers Steven Butler and Jack Steinnecker, and another fellow whose identity is now uncertain, took a couple of acoustic guitars down to the dry locker (a large space near the fantail where parachutes were hung to hang dry after washing), where they recorded the following musical selections on an inexpensive monaural cassette tape recorder. During this impromptu "jam session," they were joined by a harmonica-playing junior commissioned officer who chanced to overhear them as he passed by and asked to join in. Unfortunately, his identity is also now uncertain. To hear these selections, click on the links below.

Intrepid Jam (1 min. 34 sec.)
Tighten Up (3min. 24 sec.)
Intrepid Jam 2/Tighten Up Some More (3 min. 02 sec.)
Let It Be (2 min. 06 sec.)
Comin' Into Los Angeles (3 min. 40sec.)

NOTE: The sound quality of these recordings is not very good owing to the fact that these selections were recorded with an inexpensive compact cassette tape player that was intended primarily for voice recording only. They are presented here simply as part of the historical record of the cruise this website recalls.
