On Thursday evening, February 28, 2008, I was one of about 11,000 people who crowded into the Fort Worth Convention Center to see and hear the next President of the United States, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, speak about his vision of a new future for America. It was an exhilarating experience and one that filled me with the hope of which Senator Obama frequently speaks. I was struck by the diversity of the crowd - Black, White, Asian, Hispanic, Young, Old, Middle-aged, all of whom were very excited, anticipating the positive change in leadership that they expect Senator Obama to bring to the White House.
Because I got in line early (12:30 p.m. for an 8 p.m. rally), I managed to get a spot on the Convention Center floor about five or six feet from the podium and a little left of center (which by coincidence matches my politics!). As a result, I was able to get some great photos of the Senator and had the chance, when he came down into the crowd, if not to actually shake his hand, to experience a sort of quick grip before he moved on to another group of supporters.
