The Historic Heart: Globe Theater Site
During the Texas Centennial Exposition, where there is now a parking lot on the east side of the Music Hall, there stood a replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theater. The official guidebook to the Exposition had this to say about this unique attraction:
"Near the General Motors Auditorium, this bit of Merrie Old England recalls the days of Shakespeare, Kit Marlowe, Ben Johnson and the gallant Walter Raleigh. Here, in a setting that brings back the times of Good Queen Bess, you find a complete reproduction of the Old Globe Theatre in which the plays of Shakespeare were first produced, in London, during his lifetime."
Nearby the theatre was an "Olde English Village," complete with pub where thirsty visitors could get a drink. Both the theatre and the pub are long gone, having been torn down years ago.
