Alfred Butler

Brief Biography
Alfred Butler was born circa 1825 in Bertie County, North Carolina. Almost certainly as a child, he migrated with his parents (probably Kennard Butler and Ann Johnson Butler) to Greene County, Alabama where he is probably listed (but not by name) in the federal census for 1830 and 1840. From 1846 to 1847 Alfred served with the "Eutaw Rangers" in the Mexican War. Sometime after the war he migrated to Union County, Arkansas, where he met and married Mary F. Stanley in 1849. They are listed by name in the 1850 Union County, Arkanas census. In 1852, they migrated to Palestine, Anderson County, Texas and then, in 1854, to Fairfield, Freestone County, Texas. Alfred and his family are listed by name in 1860 Freestone County census, although by the time the census was actually taken, Alfred had recently died.
