WPA Bridge, West Lawther Drive

WPA Bridge, West Lawther Drive

As the bronze plaques attached to each end attests, this small concrete bridge was constructed by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) between 1935 and 1937. Spanning a small, apparently unnamed creek, it is located on West Lawther Drive between Fisher Road and Branchfield Drive.

The WPA was one of several federal programs authorized by Congress, as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's plan to combat the Great Depression.
