By Steven R. Butler

The Jenkins family is Welsh in origin and our branch has a long history in America. During the late 1600s or early 1700s, our Jenkins ancestors settled in Maryland, where, during colonial times, they were tobacco planters. Later generations were farmers in the mountainous regions of western South Carolina and northern Georgia during the early years of the Republic. The branch of the family from which I am descended moved from Georgia to Texas after the Civil War, setting first in Lamar County, then finally, Dallas County. Briefly, during the late 1920s and early 1930s, Muskogee, Oklahoma was home.

The biographies in this section include only those individuals from whom I am directly descended.
